East Asian Games have opened

 The EAG is a sport event held every 4 years since 1993 between athletes from Asian countries. Hong Kong plays host to the 2009 East Asian Games between December 5th and 13th. With splendid display of fireworks on the Victoria Harbour in HK, the East Asian Games have officially opened.

Along with 3,000 international athletes from Hong Kong and China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and Guam compete for 262 Gold medals in 22 sporting events.




A 30-minute-long opening performance highlighted diverse program included instrumental performances, traditional opera, etc. One the waterfront of the city’s Victoria Harbour, with display of fireworks, there was a parade of vessels glittered with red lights representing participating countries and regions.


At the opening performance, color of red played an important role. The color of red is an essential element in decorations of Chinese events. ‘Red’ symbolizes luck, happiness and joy in Chinese culture. We also could see many spectators wore in red at the opening event.
